Welcome to NasTime Adventures. Prepare for adventure. Walkthrough my own camp setup as I go car camping with my dog across Australia. Camping does not have to be expensive or complicated. In fact, camping can be quite comfortable with just a few basic items. A quick and simple set up will help you move around quicker and allow you more time to enjoy each location.
My advice when selecting gear – Get the best you can afford but don’t pay twice as much for gear that’s not twice as good. Don’t be scared to start off with cheaper gear or recycle your household goods for camping whilst you’re staring out. We all have to start somewhere. And you’re better off spending less to start with until you work out exactly what you want out of the gear. Just make sure buy quality where it counts. In particular on items designed to keep you safe.
I am constantly reviewing my gear and making changes to my set up as I go along. Simple is best. Take as little as possible. Be prepared for all conditions. Make a list and start organising your gear days or even weeks before. The best trips are those where you don’t worry about what you’ve forgotten and can set things up quickly. I keep camp boxes organised and ready to go anytime. I even have a bucket with all my dog’s gear ready. Pepe my Border Collie even has his own backpack if needed.
I’ve generally set up this sort of campsite most times within 30 minutes. For quick overnight stays, I can be ready in 10 mins. This is important.
I encourage everyone to get out there and enjoy the Aussie bush. We have so much to offer. Don’t be afraid to go out on your own. Just be prepared.
