Why should you want to learn to ski moguls? The short answer: because the moguls are where it’s at. “There was a time in skiing history where everybody would be skiing the bump runs, and there was this big camaraderie, this community feeling of ripping a bump run,” says legendary bump basher Glen Plake. “You didn’t have to be good—obviously you were inspired by the people who were—and it was this big, social thing.”
Learning to ski moguls—and how to have fun in the process—just means that you don’t have to pin your skiing hopes and dreams on elusive powder days. After all, you can ski moguls at any resort, on any day of the season. And the best part about skiing moguls? The more, the merrier.

“Something that drives me nuts is this frantic, inhuman addiction to a powder day. I can’t stand it, it drives me fricken nuts,” says Plake. “That’s why I love mogul skiing so much—it doesn’t matter how many people are skiing the moguls. While it’s wonderful to have the spectacles of the sport—those once-in-a-lifetime Warren Miller moments—we need to realize that those are just spectacles. We’re putting a lot of emphasis not on the everyday aspects of the sport. We need to understand the joy of the actual sport itself, not the snow conditions.”
Enter moguls. Learn to ski moguls efficiently and with style, and you’ll be able to tap into fun skiing on any day of the season, regardless of snow conditions. To help you get there, SKI teamed up with Plake to go over the fundamentals of skiing moguls in the video series, Bump Like Plake.
