Record Angler Turnout At Hobie Event

The second stop of the 2023 Hobie Bass Open Series saw 205 kayak anglers take the water on Caddo and Bistineau Lakes in Louisiana. According to Hobie, the event saw the highest number of participants yet in the history of the annual series, which started in 2019. Caddo Lake was also the site of the season-ending 2022 Hobie BOS Tournament of Champions.

At the 2023 early-season tour stop, the 205 anglers managed to log 2,000 fish over the course of two days on March 11-12. In the end, Rolando Nandin of Texas came out on top of the vast field of competitors. The win also secures Nandin a place to compete in the 2023 Tournament of Champions, to be held in November.

2023 Cado Lake Winners

Nandin didn’t just win a spot at the TOC, he also earned a sizeable check, as did a number of anglers who made the trip to Louisiana. Here’s more on the winner’s from Hobie BOS tournament director AJ Mcwhorter:

“1st Place and $10,000 was earned by Rolando Nandin going back-to-back in Louisiana Opens over the last two years.

“2nd place was worth $4550 and awarded to Brandon Prince who narrowly edged out Jason Isaacs. Jason also had a strong two days and goes home with an impressive $2825.

“All three of those anglers earned their spot at this year’s TOC and went home with some serious Ketch Products Inc. hardware.

“The top 31 anglers will be splitting up a prize pool over $43,000.”
