The annual SENDtember event raises funds for cancer fighters and survivors by encouraging folks to get outside and send it — whatever your ‘it’ is.
SENDtember is an annual fundraising campaign led by Backcountry and the Send It Foundation, a nonprofit that provides outdoor experiences to cancer fighters and survivors ages 21-40. Here’s the organization’s mission:
We fight cancer with things hospitals and labs can’t provide — by going outside, with bikes, skis, surfboards, and adventure of all kinds. We fight for each moment, because each day is a beautiful gift and another chance to ‘SEND IT.’
Through the month-long campaign, organizers hope to raise $80,000. The proceeds will cover the costs of sending 100 Send It members through one of Send It’s 10 outdoor adventure programs.
Specifically, the funds raised through SENDtember will go toward equipment, food, lodging, onsite medical staff, and transportation expenses. Send It will use any additional donations after that to expand its current programming.
Anyone can participate by setting up an individual fundraising page, joining a team, or donating to the cause out of pocket.
Here’s how to get involved in raisin’ those funds for this year’s SENDtember charity event.
Put the ‘SEND’ in SENDtember
The Send It Foundation set up SENDtember similarly to a charity walkathon or mileage challenge. The process is simple:
- Pick a goal, a personal challenge, or intention for the month of September
- Set up a fundraiser account through Send It’s website. The Foundation provides tools to build support, stay motivated, and spread the word online.
- Share your journey by tagging @senditfoundation and #SENDtember on social media posts.
Now, it really isn’t much to ask — who doesn’t want to get outside and send it, and for a good cause? If you still need convincing, here’s a sweetener. The top 10 SENDtember fundraisers will get hooked up with a pile of adventure gear, courtesy of Backcountry.
