Lead Up to the Olympics: Jamie Anderson and Red Gerard Win Slopestyle at the US Grand Prix at Mammoth

The winds subsided at Mammoth today and slopestyle finals went down under blue skies. Jamie Anderson put down her first-ever cab double ten in competition to win the women’s event, while Red Gerard went back twelve to switch back sixteen to take the win in the Unbound course. Red Gerard is on a tear, winning at Dew Tour just before this Grand Prix. Jamie Anderson, with two Olympic gold medals already in her trophy case, is just so good at snowboarding, especially when the pressure is on. Coming in second on the women’s side, Zoi Sadowski-Synnott is also riding incredibly well, coming off of a first place finish at Dew Tour in December. Kokomo Murase is always one to watch out for, too.

While the Toyota US Grand Prix isn’t the necessarily final opportunity to qualify for the US Team in Beijing (Laax next week is the last place to earn points and a spot on the team), some, if not the majority of the spots will be announced at Mammoth. What exactly does this mean? It all comes down to the math–if the fourth and final spot on the team in either discipline is close in the ranking (based on World Snowboarding Points List and past top-three finishes), then Laax will be a decider. On both the men’s and women’s side, this is a possibility.

Update: 1.9.2022
The first members of US Team for Slopestyle and Big Air were announced at Mammoth:

On the men’s side:

On the women’s side:

This means there is one more spot for the men and two more for the women, which will be decided after the Laax Open.

Women’s Slopestyle results:
First place – Jamie Anderson
Second place – Zoi Sadowski-Synnott
Third place – Kokomo Murase

Men’s Slopestyle results:
