Are you planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park but aren’t sure where to stay?

This guide covers the best Airbnbs near Yellowstone National Park. You’ll find the best Yellowstone park area Airbnb for you with this guide split by location, including Airbnbs in:

Before diving in, here are a few highlights to help you plan your trip:

  • Best Time to Visit: Summer is a great time to visit thanks to warm weather and all park amenities being open, but it is also the most crowded time of year. Avoid crowds by visiting in September or early October.
  • Where to Stay: Yellowstone has eight lodges inside the park, plus several campgrounds. The Old Faithful Inn and Canyon Lodge are my favorites, both close to all the most popular places to see in the park. Outside the park, look for hotels in West Yellowstone, Montana.
  • How to Get There: The closest airport is in West Yellowstone (WYS), serviced by both United and Delta Airlines. Other major airports in the region include Jackson Hole (JAC), Bozeman (BZN), and Salt Lake (SLC). Use Skyscanner to browse flights and find the best price.
  • How to Get Around: The easiest way to get around Yellowstone is by car. Use Rentalcars.com to browse deals on rental cars or rent an RV or campervan with Outdoorsy.
  • Best Self-Guided Tour: My favorite way to learn more about the park is with GyPSy Guides, a narrated self-guided tour perfect for road trips and scenic drives. The Yellowstone Guide and the Yellowstone/Grand Teton Bundle both provide incredible commentary and detail about the history and geology of Yellowstone.
  • Don’t Forget: Be sure to get an America the Beautiful National Park Pass ahead of time. This $80 pass is valid for 12 months and get you into all 400+ national park sites (including both Yellowstone and Grand Teton!).

Why You Should Stay in a Yellowstone Park Area Airbnb

Before diving into the top picks for Airbnbs near Yellowstone, I wanted to highlight some of the benefits of staying in an Airbnb when visiting Yellowstone.

Staying in a Yellowstone Airbnb may be slightly more expensive than renting a budget hotel, but there are more perks, including:

  • Airbnbs are more affordable for groups. While the total price might be higher than a standard hotel room, you’ll save money per person if traveling in a group by splitting the cost.
  • You can cook your meals. One of the most significant expenses when traveling, especially in national parks, is dining out. By staying in a Yellowstone National Park Airbnb (most of which have full kitchens), you can save money, particularly with large groups!
  • Airbnbs give you more privacy and space. Most Yellowstone Airbnbs are single-family rental homes. An Airbnb gives you room to spread out and escape the crowds after a day of exploring the park.

Where to Stay Inside Yellowstone National Park

Unlike other national parks like Yosemite, no Airbnbs are located inside Yellowstone National Park.

If you prefer to stay inside the park, you have several options. Yellowstone National Park offers nine lodges inside the park, in addition to a dozen campgrounds.

To stay inside the park, you should aim to book lodging at least 9 to 12 months out and book reservable campgrounds six months out.

Of the nine lodges, these are the ones closest to the best things to do in Yellowstone:

  1. Old Faithful Inn, a luxury inn walking distance to Old Faithful and Upper Geyser Basin
  2. Old Faithful Lodge & Cabins, a more budget-friendly lodge walking distance to Old Faithful and Upper Geyser Basin and open year-round
  3. Canyon Lodge & Cabins, a community of hotels and small cabins a short drive from Hayden Valley and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
  4. Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins, a quaint hotel in the picturesque town of Mammoth, walking distance to Mammoth Hot Springs

Where to Find the Best Airbnb Near Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is the oldest and one of the largest national parks in the United States. The park’s massive lands are connected through the Grand Loop Road.

The Grand Loop Road also connects the park’s five entrances. The best way to enter the park will depend on where you’re traveling from and what you plan to do within the park.

  • West Entrance in West Yellowstone, Montana
  • North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana
  • Northeast Entrance in Cooke City, Montana
  • East Entrance near Wapiti, Wyoming
  • South Entrance near Moran, Wyoming

There are Airbnbs near each of these park entrances. I highly recommend determining the best place to stay based on your Yellowstone itinerary. Afterward, you can use this article to help you find the best Yellowstone Airbnb in that area!

Here’s a quick overview of areas with Airbnbs near Yellowstone.

West Yellowstone, Montana: This is the closest town to Yellowstone National Park, located only five minutes from the West Entrance. There are many restaurants and hotels here, making it a great place for those who want to be close to Yellowstone’s best activities. That said, prices are higher here, and you tend to find more hotels than quality West Yellowstone Airbnb options.

Island Park, Idaho: Located a bit further from the West Entrance than West Yellowstone, Island Park provides the perfect combination of proximity to Yellowstone and a large selection of quality Airbnbs. Generally, you’ll save a bit more money by staying in Island Park than West Yellowstone.

Gardiner, Montana: This is the gateway town to Yellowstone’s North Entrance. Gardiner is located only minutes from the entrance station and Mammoth Hot Springs. You’ll find several Airbnbs here but limited amenities and restaurant choices. Gardiner is best for those that plan to spend most of their time in the northern part of Yellowstone.

Cooke City, Montana: For those visiting from Billings, driving Beartooth Highway, or visiting Lamar Valley, staying in Cooke City is a great location. This small town is a short drive to the Northeast Entrance. Options here are relatively limited but can provide a good choice for those passing through this area.

Cody, Wyoming: One of the larger towns near Yellowstone, Cody provides a sizeable selection of Airbnbs. If you’re interested in more dining options and budget accommodations with a day trip to Yellowstone, staying in Cody is a great option.

Jackson, Wyoming: If you’re also visiting Grand Teton National Park, staying in Jackson for at least part of your trip is a great idea. This small town is unexpectedly developed, with many luxury Airbnbs, high-quality restaurants, and amenities. In the winter, Jackson is a famous luxury ski destination.
