It’s no Epic or Ikon when it comes to the number of resorts you can ski, especially in Colorado, but Indy Pass notches its first ski area in the state when Sunlight Mountain Resort, outside of Glenwood Springs, comes aboard for the remainder of the 2021-’22 season.
The 730-acre resort that’s been independently owned and operated since it first started turning its lifts in 1966 is a local gem with a surprising variety of terrain. While there’s ample beginner and intermediate offerings, that’s far from all that’s on tap. Sunlight Extreme, a 12-run pod that was added in 1993, is known for its chutes, tight trees, and steep pitches descending from an intimidating ridge line. It’s legit. And now Indy Pass holders will get two days at the mountain to check it all out.
“The entire team here at Sunlight is excited to join the Indy Pass family of independent ski areas and we can’t wait for more skiers and riders to come and enjoy a two-day taste test,” said Sunlight marketing and sales director Troy Hawks. “We’re confident they will enjoy spreading out on our 730 acres served up the old-school Rocky Mountain way.”
Indy Pass Holders Have a New Reason to Head to an Underappreciated Corner of Utah
Indy Pass founder Doug Fish acknowledges that Sunlight fits in perfectly with the other Indy Pass resorts for a variety of reasons, including its throwback vibe and its emphasis on the authentic ski experience. It also doesn’t hurt that it naturally attracts fewer crowds than its mega-resort neighbors to the East on I-70.
“Adding Sunlight is a huge win for Indy Passholders. Colorado is North America’s ground zero for skiing and snowboarding and now we have access to one of the most cherished indie mountains remaining in that great state,” said Fish. ”The mountain skis much bigger than it looks on paper and the base operation is as authentic and laid-back as anything you’ll find in the West.”
Indy Pass Scoops Up Two Major East Coast Ski Areas
Unlike Epic and Ikon, the Indy Pass is still on sale for the current ski season, at $329, $139 for kids, which includes two days at each resort, with blackout dates. The Indy+ Pass is $429, and gets you two days at each resort, no blackout dates. If your home resort is an Indy Pass resort, you should consider the $229 Indy AddOn pass for two days at all of the other Indy Pass resorts, or the $329 Indy+ AddOn if you’re aiming for no blackout dates.
Or keep an eye out for next season’s passes, which should go on sale in late April.
