The bad news is, winter is over. The good news is, REI’s anniversary sale is happening right now, and some of our favorite ski accessories are now discounted until May 30. Here are six of the best deals for skiers.

We use this headlamp for skin track dawn patrols before work, and it’s always in our backcountry pack in case we end up staying out longer than anticipated. It runs off three AAA batteries or Black Diamond’s BD 1500 lithium-ion battery (sold separately for $30), can switch to two different brightness options, and has a built-in battery meter that tells us how much power we have left. Plus, the Spot 400 is waterproof, so we don’t have to worry about it hitting the snow.

Made with a four-way-stretch Polartec Power Stretch Pro fleece, this jacket is form fitting but still has an incredible range of motion, so we never feel constricted when hiking a ridge or just cruising groomers. The Polartec fleece insulates well under a shell on cold days riding the lifts, but it’s also highly breathable and great at wicking sweat, so it works for big backcountry missions, too. This summer, the Hyperaxis will serve as an excellent camping layer for cool July nights up at elevation.

Want to know what ruins a fun family ski day faster than anything else? A cold kid. That’s why one of our testers likes to wrap his littles in this jacket on bitter days as an extra layer of insurance. Filled with 650 down and designed with a generous cut, the jacket can even be worn over a ski shell as a final layer. The outer isn’t waterproof, but a DWR coating helps snow sluff off, and the jacket packs into its own pocket when not in use.

On backcountry days, we wear a Buff like a thin hood that sits under our chin but over our neck and ears to create sun protection and warmth (match it with a trucker hat for the complete look). On cold lift days, we pull it up over our mouth and nose and use it as a mask to shield our face from the biting wind. This summer you can scrunch one up and use it as a headband to keep your hair out of your face and sweat from running down your forehead. We prefer the Merino version with its ultra-soft feel because the Merino never stinks, even after months of use.

The right layering system starts with a quality baselayer, and we’ve long loved these lightweight tops from Smartwool. The Merino wool is great for moving sweat off our core and helps keep us warm under a midlayer and shell. Kudos to Smartwool for cleverly wrapping the Merino around nylon fibers so that the shirt is significantly more durable, helping it withstand long ski seasons and many trips through the washing machine.

The eye shields that are built into Sunski’s Couloir glasses keep out more light and keep our eyes feeling protected throughout the day. The polarized lenses aren’t the sharpest on the market, but they’re great for the more-than-reasonable price tag. Plus, those who don’t want to rock the eye shades full-time can just pop them off and turn the Couloirs into regular old sunglasses.
