Prime Day is weird. It’s like Black Friday in July and most of the stuff on sale is total junk. But if you look closely, there are still some smart deals to be had. We’ve been up for hours browsing the sale and found a solid selection of gear you’ll be happy to have at a sale price that actually makes a difference.
Garmin Instinct Solar Watch (Was $349.99, Now $199.99)
Heads up, backcountry skiers. You’ll want this watch because it comes with a feature called TracBack that creates a GPS breadcrumb trail as you wind your way through the woods. If you ever get turned around or lost, the watch can then use its map and compass features to guide you back along that digital path to your car. We also love the watch because the battery lasts weeks at a time and because it’s nearly indestructible.
Coleman Triton Propane Stove, 2 Burner (Was $89.99, Now $54.91)
Buy this stove now and, like your parents, you’ll use it for the next 10, 20… 40 years. It’s an absolute workhorse that pretty much never fails and can be used for summer car camping trips as well as apres in the ski area parking lot. Both burners are adjustable and pump enough heat to quickly boil water or cook a steak. Pro tip: invest in one of these reusable propane tanks as well and you’ll never worry about running out of gas and save money over time.
Marmot Women’s Jena Down Jacket (Was $200, Now $140)
Packed with 700-fill, water-resistant down, this is the jacket you throw on under your shell so you can stay out and keep slaying pow on those bitterly cold lift days. It should also live in your backcountry pack and can be used to stay warm during lunch breaks and serve as an “oh shit” layer if something goes wrong and you have to wait for rescue. When you’re not skiing, it looks good enough to wear to work or to dinner.
Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer Sunglasses (Was $163, Now $114.10)
Bob Dylan definitely wore these sunglasses best, but you should still get a pair because they look good on nearly any kind of face and will definitely up your apres game. A variety of frame colorways are on sale—everything from the standard black to a much louder tortoise—and we’ve always found the crystal lenses to be sharp and the acetate frames to be plenty strong.
Halo Bolt Portable Phone Laptop Charger, Car Jump Starter (Was $109.99, Now $87.99)
Keep one of these in your car at all times. If your battery is dead—thanks to the cold or because you stupidly left the lights on all night—it will give you enough charge to get the car going again so you can make still make first chair. This version also comes with a number of other charging ports so you can use it to juice your phone during a lunch break at the hill or even power your laptop on a hut trip.
Stanley Classic Vacuum Insulated Wide Mouth Bottle, 20 ounces (Was $36, Now $24.78)
Stop eating energy bars, or gummy bears, for lunch at the ski hill and instead heat up some soup before you leave the house and pack it along in this thermos. Not only will lunch be 10x more enjoyable, but you’ll feel much better for the rest of the afternoon. It’s worth paying a bit more for Stanley’s version of the thermos because they’ve proven over decades that they’re good at keeping things hot. Plus this thermos looks cool thanks to the iconic Hammertone Green colorway.
