Tahoe Road Gap POV is bananas!

Just because the season is winding down does not mean Slot Bar legend Trevor Semmens is. With plenty of snow still blanketing the hills around Tahoe, the Salomon athlete explored means of alternative transport, launching himself over a massive road gap and taking us along for the ride. Are Utah’s Cottonwood Canyons about to become toll roads?

Utah’s ski traffic woes are no secret. New legislation could shake things up in the Beehive State, potentially paving the way for automated tolling up the state’s popular ski canyons. The SB2 measure passed last month sets aside $150 million to address traffic issues in the canyon, calling for enhanced bus service and the possibility of passenger car tolls ranging from $20-50 per vehicle. Officials say it will take at least two years for these measures to go into effect and that UDOT’s proposed gondola is still on the table, so don’t start collecting those quarter rolls just yet. We’ll keep our eye out for this developing story.

Uh, ski dude, what the eff?

Dang, they grow ‘em differently over in Finland. What is Juho Saastamoinen even doing here? Is that 450 degrees of vertical plane rotation? I think I just drooled a little.

Valdez gets preliminary approval for a ski resort.

The reality of lift-accessed skiing in Alaska’s snowiest city moved a little closer to fruition this week as the Alaska state government approved preliminary plans for East Peak Resort, a one-chairlift ski hill just six miles outside of town. Already a heli skiing destination, Valdez has never had a true ski area to call its own, leaving many of its 4,000 year-round residents to fend for themselves come wintertime. The proposed resort would meet the local need and attract outside skiers to tackle the steep and deep of the nearby Chugach Range. East Peak now must wait for final approval, which should be announced—one way or another—by May 26.
