How Runners Can Celebrate Pride Month 2022

Kick off your summer with a bit of endorphin-releasing movement, fun, and a whole lot of love by attending an LGBTQ+ Pride run or walk. We’ve compiled a list of Pride events going in June nationwide.

(Of note: Nikki Hiltz’s Pride 5K, which has become a crowd-favorite since they launched it in 2020, will take place in October this year. Hiltz recently posted on their Instagram story that more information about the event will come out next week, so stay tuned.)

Location: St. Pete, Florida; Casper, Wyoming; Richmond, Virginia

Multiple chances to run for pride in one race series. Check out the individual race pages to see the local LGBTQ charities each race supports. Virtual racing is also an option.

Distance: 5K
Date: June 5
Location: Provincetown, Massachusetts

Starting outside the Harbor Hotel and running along Commercial Street (Front Street) gives runners “a start-to-finish, rainbow-railroad takeover of the main drag of the world’s premier queer travel destination,” according to the description on the website. And if you can’t make it to this pride run, they plan to host another during Carnival Week in August.

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

In-person registration for this event–taking place at Piedmont Park–is closed, but runners can continue to register to run virtually. Front Runners Atlanta, a running and walking club for the LGBTQ+ community and allies, uses this annual Pride Run to fundraise for various organizations raising awareness around HIV/AIDS and other issues that effect the LGBTQ community. In 2021 the club donated $44,000 to local LGBTQ charities.

Distance: 5K and 1 Mile
Date: June 11
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Lez Run Running Club, Out Philadelphia Athletic League, and The William Way LGBT Community Center, have come together to put on the sixth iteration of this “loud and proud” fun run. The timed 5K will award prizes for the top 3 male, non-binary, and female runners and wheelchair racers. The 1 Mile run will not be timed, but will have prizes for the most festive participants.

Location: Melbourne, Florida

Running around the expansive Wickham Park, this pride run promises fun for the whole family–plus prizes for the top 3 male, female, and non-binary finishers. Proceeds for this race go to Space Coast Pride, which will host its Pride Festival in September.

Distance: 5K and 10K
Date: June 25
Location: Houston, Texas

This Texas road race is going all out on the rainbow pride. The run will kick off with a synchronized “rainbow throw” so you can rock the rainbow from head-to-toe with the colorful dust. Registrants have an option to make their run charitable through the affiliated fundraising platform Reason2Race. As of this writing, the race at 89 percent capacity, so sign up soon if you want to attend.

Date: June 25
Location: Seattle, Washington

Join this race in-person at Seward Park–a beautiful park that juts out into Lake Washington–on June 25, or race virtually anytime June 24-27. Front Runners Seattle will donate 80 percent of the event profits to Peer Seattle and 20 percent to GenPride, to assist in building an LGBTQ+ senior community center.

Location: Denver, Colorado

Raise money for The Center on Colfax, an organization that provides programs and services to the local LGBTQ community, by running this fun summer race. After the race, stick around for Denver’s electric Pride Festival.
