A perfect pair.
The Squad has been a staple in the Smith line for years. It’s like a fine merlot that improves with age, thanks to new design features and color options added every season. The Code Helmet is like a juicy steak, and while it may not curb your appetite on its own, when paired with said wine, perfection is achieved.
The Squad MAG has twelve different color styles to choose from, but our choice for 2023 Platinum Pick is part of Smith’s Artist Series, designed by Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co. Yes, Draplin was the original art director of Snowboard Mag and DDC also designed our current logo, but that’s not the reason his colorway won Platinum Pick. The Draplin Spectrum Squad MAG combines retro styling with a modern design twist and the classic black frame goes with any helmet and jacket color.
On the technical side, the Squad MAG reigns superior thanks to all of Smith’s bells and whistles packed into one goggle. ChromaPop lenses open up your eyes to a new spectrum of color and clarity in any condition. The MAG lens system is easy to use, employing magnets to swap out lenses fast. And the cylindrical lens shape offers that classic goggle style that looks great, whether just wearing with a beanie or paired with any helmet in the Smith line. The extra low-light lens Smith includes with every pair is the icing on the cake.
The Code includes all Smith’s proprietary protection, like Zonal Koroyd and MIPS to keep your dome safe and is well-ventilated for an epic day on the mountain. It’s lightweight and comfortable to keep your brain safe, the perfect pairing with the Squad. – Jeff Baker
