Back with new graphics and Never Summer’s celebrated tech.
Back with new graphics and Never Summer’s celebrated tech, this board was featured last volume in Inside the Pro Model, and after spending more time on it, we decided to put it in the Platinum Pick rotation. Consistency is key when we put boards through the wringer, lapping all day, and the ProtoSlinger holds up. It is the go-to freestyle board of riders like Sam Klein and the rest of the Never Summer team, and it can be the go-to for anyone that rocks a 149 to a 160 in the park.
Want better turning on your park board? Look no further than this asymmetrical twin. The heelside edge has a slightly deeper sidecut, which allows you to engage your turn a bit tighter if you’d like, and offers advanced maneuverability while the board is flexing. A toeside turn is generally agreed upon to be easier to engage—think of that feeling but on your heels. And don’t worry, it is still a multi-radial sidecut that has become standard in plenty of boards these days, allowing for extra grip while turning.
Why get into the minutia of the sidecut on a park board not even “meant” for turning? Because the pop-and-lock park performance of the ProtoSlinger is a given and the board can handle other terrain without issue. The Shockwave camber profile has a longer section of tradition camber which, in addition to adding pop, helps with grip while carving without sacrificing the ability to levitate through powder. The ProtoSlinger really is a quiver killer. You can have fun anywhere on the mountain on this board. Who needs guns when you can just be a ‘Slinger in the mountains with one of the best Protos on the market today. – Mark Clavin
