Icelantic Skis has officially become a Certified B Corporation™, making them the second USA-based ski manufacturer to receive this certification after Faction Skis earned the accolade in September this year.
The Colorado-based company manufacturing its skis in Denver, Colorado, joins the ranks of a handful of other snow sport industry businesses and over 5,000 total Certified B Corporations worldwide, all who have committed to the highest standards of social and committed to meeting the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
To receive Certified B Corporation™ status, the company went through a rigorous certification process that uses credible, comprehensive, transparent, and independent standards to measure social and environmental performance. The B Corp assessment process measures a company’s performance in five categories: governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment.
Icelantic has been a company leading the social and environmental charge for years: With a female CEO, Annelise Loevlie, becoming Climate Neutral certified, paying their employees a living wage, focusing on manufacturing in the USA, and much more, the company received an 85.2 B Impact Assessment score.
To achieve Certified B Corporation™ status, the company modified the written structure and legally changed the operating agreement of our company to reflect that outside stakeholders, not just internal shareholders, must be considered in all major company decisions.
“We recognize that receiving this status is only a small step in showing the type of company we are committed to being,” says Ben Anderson, one of Icelantic’s founders. “We’ve got a long way to go, but we are committed to being a sustainable company in all definitions of the word.”
Icelantic is committed to protecting its mission as they grow and scale the business.
The certification process was staff-initiated and spearheaded by Icelantic’s Sustainability Manager, Sean Fox, who says, “It took two years of working with all our staff to achieve this ambitious goal. Icelantic has been doing great work for years, and we are excited to be verified for our efforts. I’m excited to see how the B Corp community will continue to structure how we do business in the future!”
