From Dec. 2-4, the best speed racers in the world will once again descend on Beaver Creek, Colo. to take on the famed Birds of Prey course. Since its inception in 1997, the Beaver Creek World Cup has made a name for itself on the men’s World Cup circuit. Not only is it one of the few World Cup races that take place on American snow, but it’s also one of the gnarliest courses on the men’s Tour thanks to its steep pitch, gravity-defying turns, and massive jumps.

Yet despite being hosted on U.S. turf, relatively few American men have stood atop the Birds of Prey podium over the years. Daron Rahlves and Bode Miller managed to claw their way onto the podium (and hang on to it) for a number of years in the early 2000s, and Ted Ligety made his mark in the years that Beaver Creek hosted a World Cup giant slalom.

But since 2015, success for the U.S. Ski Team has been sporadic on this course. However, this year, Beaver Creek will host two downhill races and one super-G, giving the talented American speed racers more chances to prove that they can compete with the very best in the world.

Will this be the year that the American contingency, including Olympic super-G silver medalist Ryan Cochran-Siegle and 2021 Birds of Prey super-G bronze medalist Travis Ganong, dominate on home snow? Or will Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt double down on their Birds of Prey downhill and super-G victories from last year? Tune in Dec. 2-3 on Outside Watch to find out.
