For the first time in more than five decades, Palisades Tahoe, Calif., will host a men’s World Cup event with a giant slalom scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 and a slalom on Sunday, Feb. 26.
While American speed racers have gotten the chance to ski in front of a home crowd for many years in the annual Beaver Creek Birds of Prey races, the U.S. Ski Team’s tech racers haven’t had a single domestic stop on their World Cup calendar since Aspen hosted the World Cup Finals in 2017. Both the World Cup giant slalom and slalom will be held on the same trail used in 2017 for the women’s alpine World Cup races, a course described as one of the toughest venues on the women’s circuit at the time.
The chance to finally flex their muscles in front of an American crowd has racers like giant slalom specialist River Radamus, already on a tear this season, motivated to put down his best performance of the year.
“I’ve been missing racing for a home crowd, so it’s going to be electric,” said Radamus. “Everybody’s going to be coming out, and I can’t wait to go put on a show.”
On the giant slalom side, Radamus and teammate Tommy Ford will headline the start list for the U.S. Ski Team in Palisades Tahoe. In the slalom, American Luke Winters, Jett Seymour, and Ben Ritchie will be the ones to watch.
While the American men’s tech team hasn’t been as strong in recent years, their recent showing at World Championships, where Radamus and Ford helped bring home Team USA’s first team parallel gold, shows promise for what’s to come from these up-and-coming tech specialists.

- The first run of the men’s slalom starts at 12:30 p.m. ET
- The second run of the men’s giant slalom starts at 4 p.m. ET. Racers start in reverse order so expect the top racers to start closer to 5 p.m. ET
