The Indy Pass is walking the walk with this weekend’s surprise announcement that the pass will go off sale tonight (April 10), way earlier than in past seasons. After all, the collective of 104 independent ski areas only went on sale to new pass holders on April 1. It has been available for renewals since early March.
The unexpected announcement comes after the news that pass sales would be capped for the first time for the 2023-’24 ski season to limit crowds and keep the spirit of these small, special places intact. If you’re not familiar, the Indy Pass, which debuted in 2019 with 44 ski areas as an alternative to the Epic and Ikon megapasses, gets pass holders two days at each resort plus 25 percent off a third day.

According to Indy Pass founder Doug Fish, record renewals combined with more new pass holder sales than expected forced the unexpected decision.
“To preserve the independent and uncrowded skiing experience we all know and love, we are pumping the brakes on pass sales,” he said. “During the off-season, we will work with our partner resorts to assess their peak-day capacity while we strive to expand our overall capacity by signing new resorts.”
With that statement, Fish has left the door open to putting the Indy Pass back on sale later this year. Typically, the pass has been available into December.
“We may add a fall pricing tier but the number of passes sold will be determined by our expansion of capacity over the off-season,” he said. “We have several new resorts in the pipeline for next season and expect significant Nordic and Alpine growth in our resort roster. Those too will be announced in the fall.”
Bottom line: If you’ve been considering adding an Indy Pass to your season pass quiver, act fast. You have until tonight (April 10) at midnight PST to pull the trigger or you could be out of luck.
